And Now For A Little Mood Music

God, I live for the NCAA tournament. The emotion, the intensity, the upsets. Bryce Drew. Keith Smart. Wally Szerbiak. Stephon Curry. Ed Pinckney. How if your Cinderella pick had made that last second shot, you’d be considered a clairvoyant but instead you’re just another chump with a busted bracket. George Mason. Santa Clara. The Richmond Spiders. John Chaney crying about Mark Macon. Bo Kimble’s left handed free throws. Vermont’s Tom Brennan’s last win as a head coach, a shocking first round upset of Syracuse. Princeton over UCLA. Weber State over UNC. VCU over Duke. Rollie Massimino. Jim Valvano. Pete Carril. John Thompson, towel on his shoulder. Tark the Shark, towel in his mouth. Coach K talking about the journey. Seniors pulled from their final game with 35 seconds left to an ovation and a long hug from the coach as they try to fight off tears. Never Nervous. The Fab Five. Melo. Big Country. Bill Raftery with “A little dipsy doodle and the (pause, then a high squeal) kiss off the glass.” Danny Manning. Christian Laettner. James Worthy. And the perfect final act, One Shining Moment, reminding us in three minutes what we just saw over the past three weeks. There’s nothing like it.
