Here’s Your Chance

Ok. Here’s how this is going to go: do you think the Eagles should trade Donovan McNabb for Jay Cutler? Eagles fans have had a 10-year old case of hemmhoroids when it comes to McNabb. Every time anything goes wrong with the team, the argument surfaces that McNabb should go. The problem is (aside from how good McNabb actually is) that finding a suitable or better replacement at quarterback is a more difficult task than filling any other position in football.
Yes, it would be nice if they could trade McNabb for Brady or Manning, maybe Joe Montana would work or Bart Starr. Come to think of it, I think Aeneas is a free agent this year. Realistically though, an unproven QB (like Kolb) or a high draft pick will be a project a few years in the making. So to contend next year without McNabb the Eagles would need to make a move for someone who can legitimately be as good or better. That’s the brass tacks of it.
Jay Cutler has requested a trade. The Broncos seem comfortable acquiring veteran players at this point. I’m calling your bluffs, folks: this is the best it’s going to get in terms of return on a McNabb trade. Do you pull the trigger?
