Very Strange No-Hitter Happened 19 Years Ago Today

Posted by Johnny Goodtimes on July 1st, 2009

andy-hawkins1On July 1, 1990 Andy Hawkins of the Yankees threw one of the strangest no-hitters of all time. He dominated the Texas Rangers into the 8th inning, and retired the first two batters. Sammy Sosa then reached on an error, and Hawkins walked the next two. With the bases juiced, left fielder Jim Leyrtiz, booted a routine flyball to left hit by Robin Ventura and all three runs scored. The next batter hit a pop fly, which was booted by Jesse Barfield, and Ventura scored. Hawkins recorded the third out, the Yankees didn’t score in the top of the 9th, and lost by a score of 4-0, despite the fact that their pitcher had thrown a no-hitter. Here is the full story of that strange no-hitter on Fack Youk.
