Phils Did Exactly What they Wanted

For those of you who are freaking out about tonight’s loss, please. In case you’ve forgotten, the last three postseason series the Phils were involved in were tied 1-1, including last year’s World Series. This isn’t a 7 game Series against the Nationals, they are playing a pretty decent baseball team, and they are bound to lose a game or, GASP, maybe even two. There are a lot of positives to take away from the first two games. Both of our starting pitchers looked great. I have no apprehension at all about using Pedro in Game 6 if the Series goes that far. The bullpen looked solid tonight, with Ryan Madson looking absolutely dominant. Yes, the hitting sucked, but you gotta hand it to him, AJ Burnett pitched a hell of a game. Nonetheless, when the Series started, everyone was hoping to have a split coming back home. We got it. I am almost surprised about how little this loss bothers me. In fact, the only thing that bothers me is having Cole Hamels starting Game 3. I suspect we’ll see JA Happ by the 4th inning. Hamels is flat out shot, and I really would have had no problem with keeping him off the WS roster. But he is the defending WS MVP, so I guess you gotta give him one shot. Nonetheless, you hope for 5 decent innings out of him and then you expect your bullpen to go long. That’s fine. The bullpen is nothing if not rested. Let’s go Phils!
