Schultz Honored, Pulls Dale Rolfe’s Hair

Dave “the Hammer” Schultz was inducted into the Flyers Hall of Fame last night, or something like that. I was at the game and while the ceremony went on for 10 minutes I was struggling to get a Tanqueray on the rocks from a surly club box bartender. In honor of Schultz and his Way-of-the-Samurai approach to hockey, we thought we’d post a few videos of some of the better fights in recent memory.
- Calgary toughguy, Dion Phaneuf, bows out of this one.
- One of the most vicious fights you’ll see. This is the kind of thing that solidifies the idea that there is nobody tougher than a hockey player (Swedes and Finns excepted).
- Ditto. Can you imagine anything like this ever happening in an NBA game? Well, we probably wouldn’t know anyway since nobody would be there to see it.
- Clash of the Titans.
- The definition of a riot. This gets so out of hand that the officials just leave. The best part, though, is when they try to stop it by turning the lights off in the arena.
- The biggest cheapshot ever, provided by the dirtiest player in NHL history. Of all people, though, Ulf Samuelsson had it coming.
- I sort of feel bad picking on Sami Kapanen on this one because he’s scrambled eggs. And because this isn’t really a fight. But it’s funny.
- And finally, Jordin Tootoo destroys Stephane Robidas with one punch.
