Who knows what was going through Florida Panthers defenseman, Keith Ballard’s, head when he went William Wallace on his own goaltender last night. But we do know what went through Panthers goalie, Tomas Vokoun’s head: Ballard’s stick. Surely Ballard wasn’t trying to sever his teammate’s head but the brash frustration that led him to ultimately lacerate Vokoun’s ear (he’ll be just fine as it turns out) is the kind of thing that has to be leaving everyone in the Panther’s organization scratching their heads (teehee).

Oddly enough, it was only two seasons ago that former Panther star, Olie Jokinen, almost beheaded his chum, Richard Zednik, with his skate. While there was nothing humorous about that injury that quite literally almost cost Zednik his life, at this point the Panthers have to be looking over their shoulders in their own locker room. This kind of repetitive fratricide demonstrated by the Panthers players gives new meaning to the tired cliche “your own worst enemy.”
