More NBA Cheer

Posted by BMT on December 2nd, 2009

ArtestOn a day when Philadelphians are celebrating the return of their own prodigal thug, news is out that Ron Artest has made a habit of drinking Cognac during halftime. According to the Sporting News, Artest kept Hennessey in his locker and would drink it at halftime. Artest went on to say “when I was a 19-year old father, whew. I was a single pimp! I was wild. A lot of marijuana and alcohol…I used to drink every night and party every night.”

Other than those slight indiscretions, Artest told the SN that NBA ref, Joey Crawford, threw him out of a game in the playoffs because the altercation he had with Kobe Bryant involved, well, Kobe Bryant. Artest quotes Crawford as telling him “Joey Crawford basically said , ‘Who cares about the Houston Rockets? Kobe Bryant is on the floor.”

If behavioral image problems aren’t worrying David Stern, he’s got to be sweating a day after it was reported that disgraced ref, Tim Donaghy, has found a publisher for his tell-all book about how he gambled on basketball. With drunk players, flatline attendance and more and more evidence that the games are being fixed, the NBA may want to start thinking about a new strategy.

That stuff was the old Ron Artest. Judging by the message in his hair, he is now “warier”, presumably warier of bad influences. Is this a sign of a newfound maturity?
