Your Thoughts On Iverson’s First Game?

I have a few. First of all, I have to admit I was a bit dispirited by his inability to get past his defender. I understand that a month off will do that to anyone, much less a 13 year veteran. We can only hope that it will simply take a few weeks of running up and down the court to get his sea legs back. He certainly played too much in the first quarter, because while he looked pretty good in the opening stanza, he wilted in the 2nd half. Eddie Jordan said before the game that Iverson could play as long as he wanted to, which goes to show what a terrible coach Eddie Jordan is. He should have doled out his playing time piecemeal and had him work his way up to 37 minutes, not overload him in his first game back. (Why this team dumped Mo Cheeks to get a much worse coach I have no idea.) There were some bright spots however. For one, Iverson really looked like a guy who was trying to work his way into an offense (what that offense is, I have no idea), not the “Me first” player that he has long been tagged as. He dished the ball out fairly well, and his mere presence seemed to light a fire under the ass of Iguodala and Dalembert. What were your thoughts? Do you think AI can play himself back into shape, or do you think this is simply a Company Watch farewell tour? Are you going to continue to keep an eye on how this plays out, or were you just in it for a night for the curiosity factor?

It doesn’t look good. Billups had the wide-eyed look of the kid in the candy store any time Allen was in front of him (which wasn’t for long). The Sixers will have to zone up any time he is in the game. The question is whether he will get that step back that always helped him to get to the hoop–right now he doesn’t have it and he knows he doesn’t have it.
Still, he is someone the other team has to guard, so it makes the team better than with an untested rookie out there.
