Eddie Jordan-Worse Than Doug Moe?

Just when you think that Eddie Jordan can’t get any dumber, he shows you that he has a few tricks up the ol’ sleeve of stupidity. Last night, the Sixers trailed by three, with 35 seconds to play. Now, common sense dictates that you force the Wizards to shoot, hope they miss, and then rush down and shoot a three. But not Eddie Jordan. He inexplicably called for the team to foul and put the Wizards on the line. In other words, instead of having the Wizards confront a defense to score their points, he offered the Wizards two free shots to give them a five point cushion. The only thing enjoyable about this train wreck that the Sixers season has become under this joke of a coach is reading Depressed Fan, who is really starting to lose his mind. Elton Brand is losing his, too. He spoke out after the game last night.

“Certain guys didn’t box out, didn’t rebound. Certain guys had a longer leash than others,” said Brand. “They played longer and the mistakes showed. No one should have a long leash if we’re not going to box out, not rebound and not play, you shouldn’t be out there.”

This is only going to get uglier. As reader Kevin commented a few days ago, “Doug Moe had a better winning percentage (.339) for the Sixers when he got canned than Jordan does now for them (.259).” Furthermore, Doug Moe had had a certain amount of success in Denver, and he took over a Sixers team that is much worse than the current version. These Sixers have talent. I can say in all seriousness that they would be better if I was the head coach.

Talent? Basketball talent? They lack a true point guard, a true shooting guard and a true center. They play bad defense, and cannot play man to man defense if both AI (if he ever returns) and Brand are in the game. Funny reading Roy Hinson II (Brand) complain about other people’s defense when he is a statue most of the time.

I told you the Knicks would be better and since I was called a moron for that comment, the Knicks are 5 games ahead of the awfulness called the Sixers.

The coaching is the least of the problem, although it is fair to ask why, if you are going to fire Mo Cheeks, that you bring in another Mo Cheeks’ style coach with no ties to the Sixers or Philadelphia (sorry, Rutgers doesn’t cut it here). The team is the real problem though.

This team is bad. I’ll give you that. But it’s maybe 13-15 bad, not 7-21 bad. There is some talent on this team. Brand is really not as bad as you make him out to be. Speights, Iguodala, and Thaddeus Young are all pretty good players. Lou WIlliams and Holiday aren’t bad. They usually play teams close into the fourth quarter, and then Eddie Jordan’s idiot substitutions and bad tactical moves doom them. Again, this team is pretty similar to the one that Tony Dileo led to a 32-27 record. I don’t discount Andre Miller’s absence from that equation, but he simply isn’t THAT good that he is the sole difference between a 32-27 team and a 7-21 team. Eddie Jordan is an absolute nightmare. The good news is that he’s going to doom them into a lottery pick.
