They Were Who We Thought They Were

The Eagles are an excellent example of how much disparity there is in the NFL. There is an enormous gulf between the haves and the have nots, and the Eagles have exploited that to make it to the playoffs, though they certainly do not belong there. They are, in a word, a fraud. The proof is in the numbers. Against non-playoffs teams, the Eagles were 11-1, with big wins against the likes of the Redskins and Buccaneers. Against teams that are in the playoffs, meanwhile, the Eagles were 0-4. But here’s where the fraud comes in: In those 4 games, the Eagles were outscored 123-51. Bad news for Philly sports fans: the Redskins and Buccaneers didn’t make the playoffs. The good news: pitchers and catchers report in 41 days.

Since I scored as many points against the Cowboys as the Eagles did yesterday, I feel that I should be entitled for the free flight back to Dallas this weekend with the rest of the team. After all, I contributed just as much as they did.

It’s hard to argue against numbers but I don’t think we’re as bad off as you’re suggesting. I’m optimistic we’ll win on Saturday and have a strong showing in subsequent games. I just can’t imagine a Wade Phillips team outplaying an Andy Reid team 2 weeks in a row. All that said, yesterday was awful. God awful.
