The Spit Heard Round the World

Dave Spadaro spit on the star at the center of the field at Cowboy Stadium last week, as we all know. It was a classless act but one that did little to change the outcome of the game, the plight of the Palestinian people or the temperature at which ice melts. Nevertheless, the most expected result of the gesture is now upon us: the apology.
And like all public apologies, it is completely insincere. Spadaro opens the emotional portion of his field-pass-privilege-reapplication apology by saying “it was not my intention to insult the Cowboys.” That seems reasonable; I mean, how often does one spit on the icon of one’s professed enemy and say the words “Dallas deserves a second one” while harboring ill will in one’s heart?
Come to think of it, I think the Cowboys owe an apology to Spadaro for making him come all the way down there and endure the cultural abyss that is Texas. After all, a Philadelphian not travelling well and insulting his hosts is unheard of. The good people of suburban Dallas should be sending us beef briskets and frito pies in return for us allowing their team to advance to the second round of the playoffs. Oh wait, that hasn’t happened yet. Well then shame on Spadaro.

A great example of how clueless the Eagles are when it comes to PR. They fire the kid who called the Dawkins move retarded on facebook but they’re keeping this clown who embarrassed the whole city with his caveman antics.
