We’re Scatching Our Heads About This One Too

Philly.com is reporting that Sixers’ guard, Allen Iverson, is currently 2nd to Dwayne Wade among vote-getters in NBA All-Star voting for Eastern Conference guards. Before you say “how is this possible, he’s only played 13 games?” let us enlighten you with a few stats reflecting just how dominant he’s been this season:
- Iverson is averaging 14 points per game, good for 64th in the NBA
- Iverson is averaging 4.5 assists per game, good for 28th in the NBA
- Iverson is averaging 2.8 rebounds per game, good for 151st in the NBA
- Iverson has a FG% of .459, good for 73rd in the NBA
- Iverson has a FT% of .792, good for 60th in the NBA
- Iverson is averaging .77 steals per game, good for 97th in the NBA
- And in his only top-25 category statistically, Iverson’s 3PT% is .429, good for an 11th-place tie with J.J. Reddick
Far be it from us to point out the ridiculous nature of All-Star voting. Of course the good news this tells us is that the Sixers, the third-worst team in the NBA, have the second-best guard in the East.

Haha, Mcgrady is 2nd in guards in the West! Classic stuff right there.

Well, he doesn’t deserve it, per se, because he is not even close to being one of the best 12 players in the Eastern Conference. In fact, I dare say that Iguodala is more deserving if you look at the numbers. But the NBA All Star game is a popularity contest, not a talent contest. If you are going on popularity, then yes Iverson deserves it. I mean, what has Iverson done? He’s taken a bad team and…made them pretty much equally as bad as they were before he got here.
